Update

It is hard to realise that the History Society has only existed for two years and entering our third year we have, again, a wide and varied range of activities planned for this new year.

Exhibitions we have planned so far for this year are ‘Royals in Redditch’, in Redditch Library, in June, for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee,  the first part of our 3 year cycle of Redditch History leading to the Redditch at 50 celebrations - ‘Redditch: Medieval Beginnings to the Great War’ at Forge Mill Needle Museum in November, and a Redditch Sporting Heroes exhibition planned for the Olympics at a venue yet to be decided.

The situation with regard to the Heritage Lottery Fund has become clearer. I does appear that a more focused approach, with individual smaller projects demanding smaller grants, could have more possibility for success than one all encompassing project. (See our Heritage Matters Newsletter 2-09

The meeting spend time on reflecting on Maurice Clarke, who had given much to the town and was a society member and contributor during our beginnings. He sadly died just before Christmas. .
